Facebook ads for contractors: When they work and how to run them

Meta ads create demand rather than capture it. That makes them a poor fit for burst pipes and a good fit for roofs, remodels, solar and anything people plan.

Facebook ads for contractors, LeadWise Marketing guide cover

Keyword tools estimate around 210 US searches a month for "facebook ads for contractors", mostly from owners wondering whether Meta is worth it. The answer depends on the kind of work you do.

Which contractors Meta suits

Good fit: jobs people plan and can see. Roof replacements, remodels, kitchens and bathrooms, windows and doors, solar, landscaping projects, decks, painting, cleaning.

Weaker fit: urgent, unplanned jobs. Emergency plumbing, no-heat calls and electrical faults are better served by search, where people go when something breaks.

The reason is intent. On Google, people are looking for you. On Meta, you are interrupting what they were doing. That works when the ad reminds them of something they have been meaning to deal with.

How to set up a contractor campaign

  • Objective: Leads.
  • Location: your service area, using a radius or specific ZIP codes.
  • Audience: broad, usually just location and age. Meta's delivery system finds interested people based on the creative.
  • Budget: enough for at least a handful of leads a week, so the system can learn.
  • Form or landing page: see below.

Special rules apply if you advertise housing, employment, credit or financial products. If your ad promotes financing, Meta may require the relevant special ad category, which restricts targeting.

Instant forms or landing pages

Instant forms let people enquire without leaving Facebook. They produce more leads at a lower cost, and more of those leads are low quality. Landing pages produce fewer, better leads. See Facebook lead ads vs landing pages.

If you use instant forms, choose the higher-intent form type, add two or three qualifying questions and connect the form to your CRM so leads arrive instantly.

Creative that works for contractors

  • Before-and-after photos of real jobs in your area.
  • Short video of your crew at work, or the owner explaining the job.
  • A clear, specific offer: a free inspection, an estimate within 48 hours, a seasonal discount.
  • The town or area name in the copy.

Avoid stock photos. They look like every other ad. See Meta ad creative for service businesses.

Follow up fast

Meta leads are less urgent than search leads. They filled in a form while scrolling and moved on. Call within minutes, and follow up several times over the next few days. See speed to lead and how to fix poor lead quality from Facebook lead ads.

Illustrative example

These numbers are invented to show typical differences.

A remodeler spends $2,000 a month on Meta and gets 50 leads at $40 each. They reach 35, book 10 consultations and sign 2 projects averaging $30,000. Cost per signed project is $1,000. The same budget on search might produce fewer leads that close at a higher rate. Many contractors run both.

Where to start

If your work is planned and visual, test Meta with real project creative, a qualifying form and fast follow-up. Judge it on booked jobs after two months, not on cost per lead in week one.

Questions owners ask

Do Facebook ads work for contractors?

For planned, visual work such as roofing, remodeling, solar and landscaping, often yes. For emergency work, search usually performs better.

How much should a contractor spend on Facebook ads?

Enough to produce several leads a week so the system can learn. For many local contractors, that means at least a few hundred dollars a week.

Should I use Facebook instant forms?

They get more leads for less money, but quality is lower. Use higher-intent forms with qualifying questions, or send traffic to a landing page.
